THE
CHURCH

What is the Church?

The Church is God’s family — the community of people united to King Jesus by the Holy Spirit.

It is not primarily a building, a brand, or a weekend event. It is ordinary people from every background who have been reconciled to God and to one another, learning to live as the renewed people of God right where they are. The Church is where the gospel takes on flesh in real relationships.

What is God's plan for the Church?

The Church is God’s primary plan for transformation in the world.

The local church, united in Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit, is how His Kingdom becomes visible and tangible on earth. The Church is supposed to be a picture of heaven — a community where heaven and earth overlap because God’s people are living His kind of life together.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God is forming us into one new family. In this family, He is transforming our desires, teaching us to love and forgive, and equipping us to stand firm against the powers of darkness — not in our own strength, but clothed in His armor. Joel Muddamalle reminds us that the Spirit doesn’t just save individuals — He forms a people who together reflect God’s character and carry His renewal into every sphere of life.

Unity in the Church is what makes it the Church. When we aim for harmony, build each other up, and live as a reconciled family, we become a living testimony of the Gospel to a watching world.

Why are there so many different churches?

There are many expressions of the Church because God loves diversity and works through different cultures, histories, and personalities.

The early church already had tensions (Jewish vs. Gentile, etc.), and over centuries different traditions have emphasized different aspects of the faith. Some differences are beautiful reflections of the many-sided wisdom of God. Others are the result of sin, pride, or division. The goal isn’t perfect uniformity, but faithful unity in Christ — loving one another even when we disagree on secondary matters.

What matters when picking a church?

Look for a community that:

Centers on King Jesus and the Good News of His Kingdom.

Teaches the Bible as one unified story.

Welcomes the active work of the Holy Spirit.

Lives as a real and diverse family — practicing love, forgiveness, hospitality, and mission.

Is committed to making all things new in its neighborhood.

The most important thing is finding a place where you can belong, grow, and serve — not a perfect church (there isn’t one), but a faithful one.

Where to Start

Start by showing up.

Visit a local church (like Nu Church!). Come as you are. If you are not ready for a Sunday, join us for a meal at a Nu Community near you. Get to know a few people. Ask questions. Let the Holy Spirit draw you into community. The Church is not a spectator sport — it’s a family you’re invited to join.

God’s plan for transformation is not a distant dream. It is happening right now through ordinary people like us, gathered in the name of King Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, and learning to love one another as we join God’s work of making all things new.

CHURCH
RESOURCES

The Church is a place where you find family, purpose, healing, and growth. You were not made for isolation, but for community. And not just any community, but a community that reflects the true and abundant life God intended for us to live. Yes, it is full of people who don’t do this perfectly, but even there, you see God’s renewal work taking place.
